We were deeply saddened and troubled by the disaster that struck the Fukushima Power Plant after the earthquake and tsunami that occurred on March 11, 2011; we express our deepest sympathy to the Japanese people as a whole enduring such a national tragedy and especially to those exposed or fearful of exposure to the resulting release of unsafe levels of radiation.

We were appalled and profoundly troubled by the failure of either the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) or the Japanese government to inform the Japanese public in an honest and forthright manner. The Fukushima disaster shows yet again that the vigilance of citizens is crucial for protecting society against nuclear dangers. It is not possible to rely on our elected leaders or the private sector to protect the health and wellbeing of society and future generations with respect to nuclear power plants and nuclear weapons.

We fully support the September 19th Rally in Tokyo and completely share your goals. We believe that people everywhere must learn from this continuing Japanese ordeal. We demand that our governments bring a timely end to the reliance on nuclear energy and nuclear weapons, while showing a proper concern for catastrophic risks arising from other energy sources.

We salute your efforts, and have high hopes for their strong and positive impact in Japan and throughout the world.
